Indian Rail Budget Highlights 2014-15

Railway Budget 2014-15 Highlights

Railway Ministry, Government of India has brought the interim railway budget 2014-15 to the parliament. Though Parliament session is not running properly this year budgets have to pass. keeping the election in mind UPA-2 did not change fare but has brought new trains. The most welcome plan is to extend the railway line to Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. This would help tourist to reach these remote but beautiful areas. Let's have a glance on the budget.

1. No increase in passenger fares or freight charges

2. To introduce 38 new express trains (See full list of trains introduced)

3. To introduce 17 new premium trains

4. To introduce 10 new passenger trains

5. Premium air-conditioned special train in Delhi-Mumbai sector with shorter advance reservation period and dynamically varying premium over tatkal fare

6. More high-speed trains to be launched

7. Passenger rail service to Katra and Vaishnodevi to start shortly

8. Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya on railway map 2014

9. Initiatives for freight corridors on eastern & western routes is an innovation in rail transport in India and will reduce transport time by half
